1/19/2018 2 Comments Homelessness in Wake County, NCHomelessness is a sad reality for many people in Wake County, NC. Everyday I see people standing on the sides of roads or at gas stations asking for any amount of money so they can help themselves or their families live a better life. I always feel so hopeless when I see homeless people begging for money from strangers. That is why I would like to shed some light on this issue. Thousands of people in Wake County are homeless and it really saddens me to see people out of hope and struggle to get along in life. We are affected by homelessness because it should make a strong feeling in you whenever you see someone so hopeless asking for anything that you are willing to give them. Many less fortunate people also die from exposure, starvation, and/or dehydration. According to an article on wakegov.com, “Over the course if a year, more than 4,000 different individuals experience homelessness in Wake County.” You should care about homelessness because you or a loved one could be in a situation identical to someone on the side of the road. If you were to “put yourself in someone else’s shoes” you for a fact would not want to be homeless begging for anything you could get a hold of.
To help with homelessness you can donate to a food bank or homeless shelter in Wake County, or really anywhere you live. You can also make sure you always carry around at least 20 dollars cash to be able to give someone some money. A more hands-on approach could be to make care baskets and fill them with necessary items and give them to homeless shelters or to someone you see in need.
